Can you fail a drug test due to CBD flowers?

Want to take a drug test but don’t know if your smoking habits will get you into trouble? Don’t stress, today we’ll teach you all you need to know about CBD flowers and the role they play in the drug test results. CBD, also known as cannabidiol is an active ingredient of medical hemp. It is a non-psychoactive and non-addictive ingredient, and as such, you won’t get high consuming it. Due to the numerous benefits it offers, CBD has evolved over the years to become a household name. CBD is found in different parts of the hemp plant, but CBD-rich hemp flowers are known to provide the most benefits.

As the hemp plant is notorious for its psychoactive properties, many people have concerns about the use of CBD-rich hemp flowers. But they need not worry, because pure CBD flowers are undetectable to drug tests. Then again, CBD flowers come in ranges. Therefore, the results you get with one may differ slightly from the results you get with the other. In the end, your chances of failing a drug test due to CBD flowers will depend on the ratio of CBD and other cannabinoids present in your strain.

Here is why you may get a positive result on your drug test due to CBD flowers

CBD flowers are derived from the notorious hemp plants, so expect some similarities in their effects and side effects. While the plant is infamous for its psychoactive properties, not all ingredients in the plant can get you high. One such ingredient is CBD.

Hemp as a plant owes its psychoactive property to a cannabinoid known as tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. If ever you get a positive result on your drug test, it is because you have a substantial amount of THC in your system.

THC, like CBD, registers as an active ingredient of CBD flowers but in varying amounts. Depending on the amount of THC present in the CBD flower consumed in the days leading to your drug test, you may or may not have a negative result. To help you understand better, let’s see how CBD flowers relate to beer.

Nowadays, beer bottles carry a 4.5 to 5.5% mark on them, which describes the concentration of alcohol in the bottle. Non-alcoholic variants, on the other hand, have 0.4% alcohol or less contained in the bottle. Furthermore, alcohol-free beverages have some amounts of booze in them. However, it is impossible to get high consuming these alcohol-free beverages. That is how it is with CBD-rich hemp flowers.

CBD flowers come in varying THC levels just like the alcohol in your booze. A typical CBD flower strain contains 0.3% THC, which is barely enough to get you intoxicated. This pales in comparison to premium CBD hemp flowers, which contains even lesser amounts of THC (lower than 0.02%). Thus, you can smoke your favorite CBD flower and enjoy its promised benefits without feeling intoxicated.

So how come people who smoke marijuana fail drug testing?

Well, it is because the THC content of marijuana is higher than the THC content of CBD flowers. When cops or local authorities impose a drug test on you, what they look for is the THC deposited in your system. With marijuana, the THC content is high so the test comes back positive. However, with pure CBD flower strains, the THC is latent (undetectable) so the test results come back negative. The only reason why your test results will come back positive due to CBD flowers is abuse.

Don’t abuse CBD

CBD is a fat-soluble compound. Therefore, it can remain in your body for long periods. If you smoke CBD flowers continuously in the days leading to your drug test, you’ll increase the chances of your test results coming back positive. While it is impossible to get high consuming CBD flowers, continuous consumption can cause the THC to accumulate in your urine. Though highly unlikely, it is possible.

Good news!

CBD flowers are recommended over marijuana for several reasons. Chief among these reasons is because of their latent THC content. The THC content of premium CBD flowers is so small that it is almost impossible to detect it with confirmative drug tests.

When you are tested for cannabis and a positive result is found, a confirmatory test will be conducted. This confirmatory test is known as a gas chromatography/mass spectrometry test. During the test, a cutoff level of  15 ng/ml will be used to detect the presence of THC metabolite (THC-COOH). With marijuana, this confirmatory test will come back positive. But with non-psychoactive cannabinoids like cannabidiol, the test will prove negative. This implies that no THC is detected.

How long can CBD Flowers stay in your urine

In a study evaluating the effect of hemp on workplace drug tests, 15 subjects were given tinctures containing THC. The concentration of THC in the tinctures ranges from 0.09-0.6mg and it was administered to them for 10 days. In the end, the subjects were tested at the 50ng/ml detection limit, and the results proved negative for subjects who administered with doses containing 0.45mg and below. The same test was conducted for subjects who ingested 0.6mg THC and it proved positive. This shows that people who consume higher amounts of THC over long periods are more likely to fail a drug test.

So how long can CBD Flowers stay in your system before it is completely ousted by your bloodstream?

All things considered, there is no definitive answer for how long CBD flowers can remain in your bloodstream. However, experts have said that the lifespan of a typical Cannabidiol is 3-5 days. Therefore, it is expected that the ingredients of CBD flower strains will linger in your body for at least 7 days after the last dosage. As studies on the time taken for CBD to be ousted from the hair, urine, and saliva is still ongoing, we assume that a daily dose of 100mg CBD flower will be detectable in your urine a few weeks after your last dosage.

Get premium CBD flowers for a negative drug test

From our earlier discussions, it is clear as crystal that the contents of your CBD flower can impact the results of your drug tests. That is why you must choose the right CBD flower strains for your recreational and medical needs. In general, premium CBD flower strains have low THC contents and produce higher concentrations of CBD. As higher concentrations of CBD have been known to negate the psychoactive effects of THC, getting premium quality CBD flowers for your recreational needs will reduce the risk of testing positive in your drug test. Also, w recommend that you consume minimal amounts of CBD flowers if you have a forthcoming drug test (especially if the THC content of the strain is more than 0.3%).

It is possible to fail a drug test due to CBD flowers if the strain is rich in THC. But with premium CBD flower strains where THC content is low or undetectable, your test results should always come back negative. However you should never chance it if it matters!
